Welcome

Incase your wondering, this is a class blog relating to the struggles between males and female in modern day society. Males are viewed ad the dominating gender who has control of his surrounduings, and apparently has an easier time coasting through society without any issues. While women always have to work harder then men to achieve their goals even though they have the more "superior intelect." Well I happen to disagree. believe it or not but women have easier access to prodominatly male occupations. A great example is the construction trades. Although the majarity of union workers are male, women are preffered. Because Women are so scarse, union preffer to hire female trade workers rather than male because it allows them to level out the feild.

Annotated Bibliography

Thesis: in 2008, Esquire magazine was trying to sell a groomed, well dressed style of masculinity to its readers.

1. Martin, Peter. “Mind the Beard Line”. Esquire. Esquire May. 2008. Vol 149. Issue 5.General One File. Pg 50. Web. 24 Oct. 2010

The Article “Mind the Beard Line” talks about the different styles of beards that are popping up. It talks about how they should look and where one should stop shaving. Its basically tells people to leave a little hair on their face but to make sure it is controlled.

The reason why this article makes a good source is because it shows how men are trying to change their appearance. It does not talk about a specific man, but all men. It also shows how men are beginning to care about their looks.

This article fits into my research paper because it supports the idea that esquire is trying to sell a groomed type of masculinity. One where men groom themselves regularly in order to appear clean and fresh.

2. Cutler, Rodney. “Shaving Everyday”. Esquire. Esquire, Feb. 2008. Vol 149. Issue 2.General One File. Pg 47. Web. 20 Oct. 2010

“Shaving everyday” is another article that Esquire put out in 2008. This article explains in detail how to shave using a straight razor. It also tells its readers what type of shaving cream and lotion to use in order to rejuvenate their face.

This is a good article to use because it shows that men in 2008 are shaving on a regular basis. It also shows that they care how their face appears because they are beginning to use aftershave and moisturizers.

This article fits in with the others because it talks about men grooming. It also helps support the
Idea that in 2008, the groomed masculinity was preferred over just as the other articles do.

3. “The (new) Laws of Casual Style.”. Esquire. Esquire, Feb. 2008. Vol 149. Issue 3.General One File. Pgs. 118-128. Web. 20 Oct. 2010

The Article talks about how men’s casual has changed for the 2008 era. Stating that sports jersey should not be worn, rugby shirts are acceptable, and that when in doubt an oxford shirt won’t steer you wrong. Also states what outfits to wear when playing sports.

The article is a good source because it shows how casual has upgraded in order to fit the groomed look. Not making a person look to out of the ordinary or dirty when casual. Allowing people to stay casual but look groomed.

This article fits into my research paper because it shows how fashion changed in order to keep men looking groomed. It supports grooming with its outfit suggestions. And continues with the constant theme.

4.Cutler, Rodney. “The 2008 Grooming Awards.” Esquire. Esquire, Feb. 2008. Vol 150. Issue 5.General One File. Pgs. 67-72. Web. 20 Oct. 2010

This article takes all the popular men’s grooming products and compares them to one another. Showing which ones moisturize better and which ones give you a better shave.

This article is a good reference because it has surveyed the products. Meaning that the results of the products are not based on one man’s opinion.

This article shows how men care about their grooming. Especially since there are so many products that have sprung up. Shows how men want the best so they can look their best which support Esquires goal of creating well groomed men.

New Draft 2

Epiphany

Well while I was editing my first draft, I looked at my ad and decided to discard my old draft. It didn't feel right, and it was just garbage. I decided to take my paper in a whole new direction and feel as if it is for the better. I figured that the true type of masculinity that my ad is trying to convey is a care free, go getter type of masculinity. So I started from scratch and just finished my new draft. Hope its better than the last
